Go back to the Cargo Bay and once inside save over the manual save you made in step 2 and quit the game. If you go into the Escape Pods and find him, kill him and loot him, the objective should update. If you go into the Escape Pods and don't find a phantom named kirk Remmer, quit the game and delete the lifesupport.level file from the manual# folder and try again.
